I agree with Joe, were the reverse true, i.e., an incurable disease but a great job and a pile of money you really wouldn't be very well off. As to being depressed, a good part of my life I had bouts with that. The mind can be a terrible enemy but, with some practice, you can turn it into a powerful ally. I like to say that I learned to "fool my own mind." I removed all negativity from my thinking, and all negative people, to the extent I could. I learned to reward myself when I achieved something, however small it was my achievement. I thought of the blessings I did have, and figured the bad things were but mud puddles for me to jump. I quit comparing myself to those who I thought had a much better life than I had, with fewer problems and worries. I have gone through periods where I have had much more in terms of money and possessions than I ever deserved, and times where I had no idea how I would make it through the end of the month. And then I learned to control my mind, and my depression. I found things to do to occupy my time, and my thoughts, such as build bluebird houses from scrap wood, everything free but the screws or nails, and some of them were. I began to go for very long walks and to see all the beauty and things of wonder that had always been there but never noticed by me. I began to do more volunteer work with groups I never been part of. In time, things got better for me. And I haven't had an episode of being depressed in many years. I hope your situation improves and I apologize if I have said more than you were wanting to hear from a total stranger. But I have been where you are now, and I've not a single scar from it.
